A Waupun man accused of stealing a vehicle to drive to Milwaukee to buy heroin has been charged. Twenty one year old Joshua Gierach, is charged with burglary, operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, misdemeanor theft and bail-jumping. According to a criminal complaint, Gierach told Waupun police he used heroin before allegedly breaking into a State Street home and stealing jewelry and a car and drove to Milwaukee to buy more heroin.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
