MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin has appealed a federal judge’s ruling from last month striking down the state’s ban on same-sex marriages. Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen filed the appeal today. The judge ruled on June 6th that the ban was a violation of gay couples’ equal protection and due process rights. More than 500 gay couples got married in the state before the judge put her ruling on hold.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
