MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Newly released records show a longtime aide to Governor Scott Walker helped interview the two finalists for the job at the state public defender’s office she landed. Records related to the hiring of Cindy Archer were released today. The Wisconsin State Journal reports that during the interview process State Public Defender Kelli Thompson determined Archer was the best person for the IT manager job.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
