The local unemployment rate is up slightly in the latest reporting period. The state Department of Workforce Development says the city of Fond du Lac’s unemployment rate in June stands at 6.5 percent. That’s up from six percent in May. The June jobless rate in Fond du Lac County is up four tenths of a percent to 5.6 percent. In Dodge County the unemployment rate increased from 5.8 percent in May to 6.3 percent in June.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
