All three Republicans running for the 6th congressional district seat say they are the most conservative candidate. State Senators Joe Leibham, Glenn Grothman and state representative Duey Stroebel appeared at a Republican sponsored forum at the Fond du Lac Goodrich Little Theatre Tuesday night. Stroebel says his message is resonating with voters. “There’s a frustration out there with people who are career politicians and I think there is a need people feel for people from the private sector,” Stroebel said. Grothman says the voters will decide who will take charge in Washington. “We’ve got a lot of problems. We can no longer kick the can down the road on the deficit, we’ve got to do something about the out of control welfare. I think I’ve established myself as the candidate most likely to solve those problems,” Grothman said. Leibham says he’s working every day to reach out to residents of the 6th Congressional district. “People are looking for a leader, someone who is working to reform our government, to positively focus on how we can make this nation a better nation.” So what separates the candidates? Stroebel says he’s the most conservative of the three. “I would say I’m the most conservative candidate but what truly differentiates me is that I have private sector experience.” Grothman says his voting record speaks for itself. “There’s no question its me because of the breadth of issues I’ve taken on.” Grothman cited measures like state tax credits for private schools, tort reform and voting to eliminate 400 state government jobs. Leibham says he is the most conservative. “I’m solidly conservative, I’ve got a record to prove that,” Leibham said. “With that conservative record and conservative philosophy comes an ability to work with people.” The winner of the August primary will challenge Democratic Winnebago County Executive Mark Harris in the November general election.
