A lightning strike apparently started a fire that significantly damaged a Fond du Lac area home. Shortly before 4pm Friday The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and Van Dyne Fire Department were called to a residence at N8743 Lakeshore Drive in the town of Friendship for a report of a house fire. The house was vacant at the time of the fire and is believe have been started by a lighting strike. The house suffered significant smoke and fire damage. Fire departments from North Fond du Lac, Town of Lamartine, Town of Eldorado, Town of Fond du Lac and Town of Nekimi Fire Departments assisted the Van Dyne Fire Department.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
