todayAugust 19, 2014

A convicted child sex offender is charged with child abuse and an infant is in critical condition at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee.   Judge Richard Nuss ordered $500,000 cash bail for 34 year old Jason Shifelbine following an initial court appearance Monday.  Similar charges filed against Shifelbine were dismissed in 2009 on a motion by former District Attorney Dan Kaminsky. According to a criminal complaint on August 13th the boy suffered severe and life-threatening injuries.  Children’s Hospital Dr. Angela Rabbitt says …”if the victim survives he will like have long-term deficiencies related to the injury.”   Shifelbine told investigators the child fell from a counter while he was putting the child’s shoes on.    An Agnesian Healthcare doctor said he is 100 percent sure the brain injury suffered by the victim did not occur from a fall from a counter.  If convicted, Shifelbine faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.  A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Agusut 28th.
