The unemployment rate is down in Fond du Lac and Dodge counties but up slightly in the city of Fond du Lac. Fond du Lac was one of six cities in the state that saw an increase in the jobless rate from 6.5-percent in June to 6.7 percent in July. In Fond du Lac county the unemployment rate dipped slightly from 5.6 to 5.5 percent. The Dodge county unemployment rate is down three tenths of a percent to six percent.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
