8-21-14 little change in local unemployment rate

The unemployment rate is down in Fond du Lac and Dodge counties  but up slightly in the city of Fond du Lac.   Fond du Lac was one of six cities in the state that saw an increase in the jobless rate from 6.5-percent in June to 6.7 percent in July.  In Fond du Lac county the unemployment rate dipped slightly from 5.6 to 5.5 percent. Fond du Lac County hopes a new initiative will help spur interest in the county’s aeronatics business park.  The county board has given the okay to spend $3000 for an aerospace study. A just-released study by researchers at the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health concludes that there’s no difference in concussion rates among Wisconsin high school football players using different brands and ages of football helmets. Tim McGuine co-authored the study of more than two thousand players during a two-year period. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin retains its number two spot among states on the ACT college entrance exam.  The state's high school seniors scored an average composite of 22.2 out of a possible 36, ranking Wisconsin behind Minnesota. Seventy-three percent of Wisconsin seniors took the exam this year.
