The Fond du Lac County clerk says she’s concerned that voter turnout was so light in the recent August primary election. Lisa Freiberg says turnout was below projections both locally and statewide. In Fond du Lac County only 23 percent of eligible voters cast ballots. Freiberg says part of the problem may be that the election is during the summer. But she says changes that place restrictions on absentee voting also probably were a factor.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
