9-4-14 walker questions burke’s record on school board

todaySeptember 4, 2014

MIDDLETON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker says his Democratic challenger Mary Burke hasn’t addressed low graduation rates for black students as a member of the Madison school board and doesn’t want to save taxpayers money by implementing the law that effectively ended collective bargaining for teachers.  Walker made the comments Wednesday after touring a sensor manufacturer in the Madison suburb of Middleton.  Walker says he was surprised to see that graduation rate for black students in Madison were lower than for black students in Milwaukee.  The graduation rate for black students in the Madison district was 55 percent in 2012, while in Milwaukee it was 62 percent.   Burke was elected to the Madison school board in 2012.
