9-6-14 attorney general race

todaySeptember 6, 2014

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The gloves are coming off in Wisconsin’s attorney general race.  With eight weeks left before the Nov. 4 election, conservative and liberal attack groups have started scouring courtroom records for cases that they think show Republican Brad Schimel and Democrat Susan Happ are soft on crime.  Schimel has served as Waukesha County’s district attorney since 2006. Happ handled criminal defense before she became Jefferson County district attorney in 2008.  The conservative group Media Trackers has accused Happ of arguing for a light sentence for a sex offender she defended in 2000 and letting a child molester who had agreed to buy her house off easy.  Liberal group One Wisconsin Now, meanwhile, has a list of nearly a dozen instances where it says Schimel went easy on sex and porn offenders.
