9-12-14 fdl police say car vandals were “bent on causing destruction”

Fond du Lac police say it appears five young men decided to smash car windows just because “they thought it would be fun.”   Police arrested the men, ranging in age from 19 to 26,  and at least two of them face felony criminal damage to property charges for smashing the windows on more than 60 vehicles parked on city streets.  Assistant police chief Steve Klein says there is no indication that any of the individuals were under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the vandalism spree.  Klein says the group was traveling in a pick-up truck using baseball bats to smash the car windows.  Klein says its one of the worst acts of vandalism he’s seen in more than two decades of law enforcement.  “It just blows my mind, you know over the course of 20 years with the police department we’ve had some instances of vandalism, but this is probably one of the worst ones I’ve seen,”  Klein told WFDL news.  The suspects are expected to make their initial court appearances this week.
