A former Waupun resident is going to prison for smuggling heroin into the Fond du Lac County Jail. Fond du lac judge Peter Grimm sentenced Bradley Verfurth to a year in prison and two years extended supervision. That’s consecutive to a prison sentence he is already serving. Verfuth had earlier pleaded no contest to a charge of possession of narcotic drugs.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
