CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (AP) — Acquaintances say the Eau Claire man who fell to his death with repairing a ham radio tower had been climbing similar towers for at least a decade. Authorities say 59-year-old James Linstedt fell about 95 feet from a tower north of Chippewa Falls Tuesday evening. Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk says it appears Linstedt was wearing a safety harness while on the 100-foot-tall tower, but as he moved around on the tower he was not safely strapped in.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
