The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information regarding recent thefts of catalytic converters from local auto repair businesses. The Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating fifteen thefts at multiple businesses in the Town of Addison, Village of Richfield, Town of Wayne, and Town of Kewaskum. The thefts would have occurred between July 1st and Sept. 22nd. The catalytic converters are being removed from the exhaust systems of cars parked in the lots of the auto repair businesses while the businesses are closed. The catalytic converters are then turned in for cash at recycling centers or scrap metal businesses. Anyone with information on a possible suspect is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 262-335-4378 or the Washington County Tip Line at 1-800-232-0594.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
