Fire caused minor smoke damage to a restaurant in Peebles. firefighters were called to Peebles Grill on Highway WH shortly after 5pm Monday to a report of smoke and flames. “There was a small fire contained to the kitchen area. It appears to be something left on a small, heated serving cart that started on fire,” Sheriff’s sergeant Eric Halbach told WFDL news. Halbach says an adjacent tenant heard the smoke alarm and dialed 911. The restaurant was closed at the time and nobody was injured.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
