GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Crews have safely removed a black bear seen roaming a Green Bay neighborhood.  Police say the bear was spotted around 6 a.m. Thursday.  Jeff Pritzl, district wildlife supervisor for the Department of Natural Resources, says the bear was "just following his nose" but was getting too close to some restaurants.  Police corralled the bear into a backyard area. MILWAUKEE (AP) — A recent survey released by the U.S. Census Bureau has found poverty is increasing for single mothers in Wisconsin.  The latest American Community Survey, which focused on family homes with children under the age of 18, found four out of 10 single-mother households in the state were living in poverty last year. 9-19-14 new jobs numbers

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The latest jobs numbers showing how well Wisconsin is doing creating jobs compared with other states are set to be released. The report coming today from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics will show private-sector job creation for the state and nation for the 12-month period ending in March. In the last report released in June, Wisconsin ranked 37th in private-sector job growth.

9-18-14 former waupun man convicted of trying to smuggle heroin into jail

A former Waupun resident is going to prison for smuggling heroin into the Fond du Lac County Jail.  Fond du lac judge Peter Grimm sentenced Bradley Verfurth to a year in prison and two years extended supervision.  That's consecutive to a prison sentence he is already serving.  Verfuth had earlier pleaded no contest to a charge of possession of narcotic drugs.

9-18-14 campbellsport woman convicted of owi 4th

A Campbellsport woman will spend time behind bars after being convicted of  repeat drunken driving.  A Fond du Lac jury found Kathryn Burgett guilty of owi 4th offense.  Judge Peter Grimm placed Burgett on probation for two years with 10 months in the county jail.  Burgett was also ordered to pay $3000 in fines plus court costs.

9-18-14 fdl car vandalism suspects appear in court

Three suspects in a car vandalism spree have made their initial Fond du lac court appearances. Twenty year old Zacharias Manthey, 20 year old Tony Sharratt and 26 year old Traven Koenigs all of Fond du lac are charged with criminal damage to property.  They are accused of smashing the windows out of 60 vehicles in Fond du lac earlier this month using baseball bats.  Two other suspects, ages 19 […]

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A federal appeals court has stayed a ruling that Wisconsin's gay marriage ban is unconstitutional.  The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals earlier this month upheld U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb's June ruling that the ban violated gay couples' equal protection rights.  Republican Attorney General J.B. (AP) — A civil rights group has filed a lawsuit seeking recognition of gay couples who married in June after a judge struck down Wisconsin's ban on same-sex marriage.  U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb found the ban was unconstitutional.
