Blaine Toshner will go down as one of the greatest high school athletes ever in Fond du Lac. Funeral services were held Monday for Toshner who died a week ago from a heart attack at age 48. Saint Mary’s Springs Academy High School athletic director Kyle Krueger was Toshner’s teammate when the Ledgers won the State football championship in 1983. Toshner went on to play college football at North Dakota State University. But unlike most Fond du Lac residents, Krueger remembers Toshner as a friend…a person he grew up with from kindergarten through high school. “We were on the same little league team, same basketball team, we were the pitchers and catchers on the baseball team, in high school the state captains on the state championship team, he wore number 7 I wore number 8, he was the kicker I was the holder. It seems like we were connected for a lot of years,” Krueger told WFDL news. Krueger says Toshner will be greatly missed…and remembered for being an outstanding person with a great sense of humor.
