A 16 year old Waupun boy was taken into custody after an armed stand off with police. Shortly before 4pm Tuesday Waupun police received a call that the teenager had armed himself with a shotgun and ammunition and locked himself in a bedroom, threatening to harm himself. Police chief Dale Heeringa says family members were evacuated and neighbors were contacted and told to stay in their homes. After about a half hour the juvenile was contacted by telephone and eventually surrendered without incident.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
