Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County has a new grant coordinator. Ripon native and former county director of administration Ellen Sorensen has been tabbed for the post. Sorensen returns to Fond du Lac County having spent several years working in administrative capacities at both Brown and Marinette Counties. The past two years she has dealt with issues of drug use and chaired the Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee of Marinette County. Sorensen replaces Janet Lloyd, who has resigned to join the Lakeland Care District. DFC works to prevent and reduce substance use in Fond du Lac County. The coalition has helped establish six county Drug Drop locations for safe disposal of medications and reduces the amount of medication available for misuse and abuse. The coalition has also advocated for social host ordinances in six Fond du Lac County municipalities, holding persons responsible for hosting or knowingly providing a place for underage drinking to occur.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
