The Fond du Lac Salvation Army Coats for Kids program is underway. Salvation Army Director of Social Services Ron Jacobson says last year the program served more than a thousand children and adults. “It kind of goes hand in hand with you basic human needs. People who need food because they don’t have the money really can’t afford to get those winter coats to keep warm during our harsh winters,” Jacobson told WFDL news. Jacobson says people can drop off new or gently used coats at a number of locations including the Salvation Army office on Main Street. Coat collection ends November 2.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
