MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A gay Wisconsin congressman is praising a U.S. Supreme Court move that essentially legalizes gay marriage in five states. Mark Pocan, a Madison Democrat, says equality is here to stay in Wisconsin. He says the court’s move ends a dark chapter in the state’s history in which people were treated as second-class citizens based on who they choose to love.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
