The director of a Fond du lac domestic abuse shelter says domestic violence awareness has never been greater than it is today. Solutions Center director Maggie McCollough says Wednesday night’s Light Up the Night Against Domestic Violence rally in Fond du Lac brings even greater awareness to an issue that is typically hidden. “This is really a watershed for awareness,” McCollough told WFDL news. “What happened in the NFL was obviously what’s making the headlines, and I think what’s remarkable about it is not that there’s domestic violence in the NFL but that the fans really rose up in protest to the initial treatment of the perpetrator in this case and changed the behavior in the NFL.” One out of three women and one out of seven men has been abused at sometime in their life. A program was held at the Goodrich Lirttle Theatre followed by a flash-mob dance at Veterans Park to celebrate domestic abuse survivors and remember those who have lost their lives to domestic violence.
