A former Rosendale man who shot and killed his wife in 1998 has been released from a state mental health facility. Sixty six year old Keith Vandeberg was released in Madison November first following a request that was granted by Fond du Lac Judge Richard Nuss. Vandeberg will remain under supervision of a community treatment program. Vandeberg was found guilty, but not guilty due to mental disease or defect of first degree intentional homicide in January 1999 in the shooting death of his wife at their Rosendale home. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
