Ripon school district voters will go to the polls today to decide two separate referendum questions. Superintendent Dr. Mary Whitrock tells WFDL news the first question is a $29.1 million referendum to renovate the high school and construct an addition to create a combined middle school and high school. “It would demolish the existing middle school. That space would be converted to a parking lot and tennis courts, areas that would be taken over by the high school, and then there are safety and security upgrades to all of the schools,” Whitrock said. The second question is a $500,000 operations referendum. “…provide curriculum resource materials for teachers and staff, one of the big areas is engineering. Also updating technology, performing some maintenance,” Whitrock said. “Over the past number of years we’ve lost about $4.5 million in terms of our operational budget. When you start to take those things out of your budget it becomes harder and harder to do those things that really should be routine and a part of what your every day life is.” Whitrock says the tax impact for the owner of a $100,000 home is about $119.
