SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (AP) — Republican Gov. Scott Walker and Democratic challenger Mary Burke are targeting supporters as the clock winds down to Tuesday’s election. Walker started Monday with a rally at Brooks Tractor, a heavy equipment business in Sun Prairie. About 100 supporters chanted “four more years” as Walker took the stage with Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan. In a 10-minute speech, Walker accused special interest groups of targeting him. He made an oblique reference to his signature law stripping public workers of their union rights, saying he had to make tough decisions to help the state’s finances and the law wasn’t about politics. Walker made more stops in Onalaska, Eau Claire, Mosinee, Green Bay and Waukesha. Burke made appearances in Eau Claire, Superior, Stevens Point, Green Bay and Madison.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
