A public hearing will be held Thursday night on a proposed 2015 Fond du Lac County budget. County executive Al Buechel says the budget includes a slight increase in the tax rate because of an increase in new construction. Buechel says there are no cuts planned in staff or services. He says the county’s equalized value is up for the first time in four years. The proposed 2105 Budget would include an increase in the tax levy from $40.25 million in 2014 to $41.41 million next year. Equalized value will increase 1.76 percent and the tax rate of $6.11 represents a 6-cent increase, or about 1 percent. The hearing starts at 7:30pm.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
