Voter turnout in Fond du lac County was higher than projected. Fond du lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says locally more than 74 percent of eligible voters cast ballots. Freiberg says there were isolated incidents reported of election observers trying to talk with voters at the polling place. “Just a few places, the chief election inspector for the municpality called to make sure they had the right to ask them (observers) not to have interaction with the voters. We had a few observers that felt they could talk directly with the voter and that is absolutely no,” Freiberg told WFDL news. Freiberg says now the planning begins for elections next spring.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
