A Fond du Lac state lawmaker has been elected to a leadership post. Republican state senator Rick Gudex was named senate president pro tempore. Gudex will preside over debate when the senate president, Mary Lazich, is not able to. “When she is on the floor and we are running proceedings I serve at the president’s discretion,” Gudex said. “If Mary Lazich decides that at some point throughout the proceeding that she has other business, the president pro tem steps in for the president and becomes the president at that point.” Gudex says its an honor to be named to the post in his first term.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
