The director of a Fond du Lac homeless shelter says she is surprised to see that the number of homeless people in Wisconsin has declined. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development report says the number of homeless people in Wisconsin declined nearly one percent this year compared to 2013 and dropped about 4 and a half percent from 2010. Fond du lac Solutions Center Director, Maggie McCollough, says that’s not the case locally. The report shows the number of homeless veterans in Wisconsin declined more than ten percent from last year. Again McCollough says the number of homeless veterans is up in Fond du lac.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
