MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Democratic state representative from central Wisconsin is conceding she lost her seat in last week’s elections. Preliminary results from Tuesday’s contests showed 85th Assembly District incumbent Mandy Wright of Wausau trailing Republican challenger Dave Heaton by 86 votes. Wright said Tuesday the official canvass shows she lost by 84 votes. She said a recount probably wouldn’t change the outcome and she didn’t want to put her community through that process. Wright’s concession brings the Republican majority in the chamber to 62-36 with one race still close to call. Preliminary results show Republican Todd Novak leading Democratic Dick Cates by 59 votes for an open seat in the 51st District.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
