GILE, Wis. (AP) — More than four feet of snow has hit a small Wisconsin village on the Michigan border this week.  National Weather Service Meteorologist William Leatham says it started with a low pressure system that caused snow Monday and Tuesday, which helped bring in lake effect snow the rest of the week. Leatham says 50.1 inches fell in Gile.  He says it’s not unusual for the area to get lake effect snow in November, with the warm Lake Superior waters and cold winds.  Three miles away in Hurley, Wisconsin, residents received 38 inches. Leatham says it’s not unusual for lake effect snow to have bands of larger accumulation, but it is unusual to get so much in five days.  He says the Gile snow spotter reports about 240 inches of yearly snow.
