The two oldest living former Fond du lac firefighters are being recognized for their service. The Fond du lac city council this week presented a proclamation to George Casper and Dalton Kubelt. whose careers spanned the parts of five decades. Assistant fire chief Randy Cunzenheim says Casper and Kubelt started in the department at about the same time in 1946. “Its pretty amazing, those guys are a wealth of knowledge and its just wonderful to see those guys enjoying a long retirement,” Cunzenheim told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program. “They’re so well respected by members of our department.” Casper is 99 years old…retiring from the department in 1980. The 92 year old Kubelt retired a couple years later in 1982.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
