MEDFORD, Wis. (AP) — Taylor County sheriff’s officials say human remains have been found in the rubble of a tree stand fire. The sheriff’s department was notified about a missing person after a 52-year-old Medford man failed to meet two others to go hunting. Medford police officers and sheriff’s deputies began a search for the man and found his ATV on his rural property near a wooden, elevated box-like hunting stand. The hunting stand had recently burned. Investigators say the man used an LP heater in the stand. No foul play is suspected. The remains have not been identified.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
