The Fond du Lac County Board has approved a 2015 budget. The board adopted the budget at their meeting Tuesday night with county board supervisors Thomas Schumacher and Dennis Stenz voting against. County executive Al Buechel says the budget includes funding to reinstate county membership into the East Central Regional Plan commission for the first time since 1982. “There are different services that are being provided that our municipalities can’t take advantage of without paying themselves,” Buechel said. Buechel says municipalities can use the services of the commission for planning services. The budget includes an increase in the tax levy from $40.25 million in 2014 to $41.41 million next year. Equalized value will increase 1.76 percent and the tax rate of $6.11 represents a 6-cent increase, or about 1 percent.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
