The Fond du Lac metro (Fond du Lac County) ranked 27th in the nation for low crime rates in 2013. CQ Press ranked 350 metro areas based on FBI crime statistics. The rankings measured murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft. Larceny-theft is not used in these rankings because they are inflated with high numbers with even minor offenses being reported taking the emphasis off more serious crime. When matched with quality education such as that in Fond du Lac County, Fond du Lac County is very attractive as a place to live.”

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
