11-25-14 deer hunt

todayNovember 25, 2014

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Hunters have registered more than 90,000 deer during the opening weekend of Wisconsin’s 9-day deer season.  The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources also says it was a safe opening weekend, with no hunting-related injuries recorded.  Many hunters described Saturday’s conditions as ideal, but rain and fog made for a quiet Sunday.  Of the 90,281 deer registered over the weekend, nearly 1,500 were registered by participants in a pilot program for an electronic registration system that will be available to all hunters in 2015.  As expected, the statewide deer kill was down most significantly in the far northern counties. The DNR is trying to increase deer numbers in the north, so many counties have a buck-only restriction this year to help the herd rebuild.  The season runs through Nov. 30.
