12-4-14 fdl lakeside park christmas light show will go on

todayDecember 4, 2014

The Fond du Lac Lakeside Park lightshow will go on.   For the past five years the show has been presented by Joe Skleton of Nemisis Metals as a thank you to the city who helped him get a loan to start his company.    But the executive director of the Fond du lac Area Foundation Sandi Roehrig says Skelton told her in a conversation last summer that there were no plans to continue the show this year.  Roehrig says it has cost Skelton over $100,000 to present  the show over the past five years, not to mention countless volunteer hours.  The Foundation agreed to provide financial support along with Agnesian HealthCare, Fond du Lac Noon Rotary and Michels Corporation.  The special animated light show is featured nightly from 5pm to 11pm until Saturday January 3rd off Frazier Drive in Lakeside Park.  Each show lasts about 25 minutes, cars tune their radios to 87.9 to hear songs that are timed with the lights.   There is parking for about 100 cars.  The show is offered free of charge and a Snack Cabin at the park entrance sells hot chocolate and apple cider, popcorn and pudgy pies.  Roehrig says the Foundation has established a Lakeside Park Lights Show Fund for light replacement, sets and programming costs in the future.
