Clergy sex abuse survivors and three Catholic priests are asking the Pope to investigate the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. The group of victims and their supporters have issued an open letter calling on the Vatican to investigate the actions of the Archdiocese in its dealings with survivors in connection with its bankruptcy. Former archdiocese vice chancellor Reverand James Connell is among the signatories Connell tells WFDL news the archdiocese cast a wide net inviting victims to file claims only to move to dismiss them in court and would rather pay attorneys to fight claims than compensate survivors. “If the archdiocese is really holding on to say no claim has merit than I ask, and the other survivors do to, why are you in bankruptcy court then?” The archdiocese filed for bankruptcy in 2011 to deal with its sexual abuse claims.
