12-5-14 uw fraud hotline

todayDecember 5, 2014

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The University of Wisconsin System is considering the creation of a hotline to report waste, fraud or abuse by employees or schools.  On Friday, the UW-System Board of Regents is expected to consider the proposal to establish a hotline separate from an existing one run by the state audit bureau. Officials say the move would be similar to those of other schools across the nation and in the Big Ten Conference.  The education manager for the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners says that fraud hotlines are becoming more common at universities because they can help identify ethics abuses and wasteful spending.  UW-System spokeswoman Heather La Roi says the hotline would be run by an outside company and could cost less than $75,000 per year.
