12-9-14 stray bullet strikes waupun community center

todayDecember 9, 2014

Nobody was injured when a stray rifle bullet struck the Waupun Community Center.  Waupun police chief Dale Heeringa says the incident happened November 29th when there was a hockey game in progress. Heeringa says its fortunate that nobody was hurt.  “There was a high powered rifle bullet that was fired toward the Community Center during a hunting incident, or we’re not sure exactly how it got there,”  Heeringa said.  Heeringa says investigators have an idea the area where the gun was fired.  “The bullet penetrated the metal siding on the north side of the building approximately 11 feet off the ground, traveled across the ice rink and impacted one of the hockey ice rink panels on the south side of the building.” Heeringa says it does not appear the shot was fired intentionally at the building, but says the police department is continuing its investigation,.
