Fond du Lac state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt says he hopes to be able to chair the Assembly education committee when committee assignments are handed out this week. The Republican lawmaker says there are three top issues that he wants to address in the next legislative session, including a school accountability bill that failed to pass last session. Thiesfeldt says he also wants to see the private school voucher program further expanded statewide and also supports changes to the Common Core education standards.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
