Public health officials say flu is now widespread in Wisconsin, a sign that this year’s influenza season will be harsher than most. Fond du Lac County Public Health nurse, Joyce Mann, says the number of confirmed influenza cases started earlier this year compared to last year. Mann says its still important and not too late to get a flu shot, despite reports that the vaccine is less effective this year because its poorly matche to the dominant strains in circulation.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
