Fond du Lac congressman Tom Petri says he’s pleased a Highway 41 truck weight measure has finally been approved after years of delays. The measure to grandfather current weight limits on Wisconsin’s portion of Highway 41 before it becomes an Interstate next year was included in the Omnibus Appropriations bill passed by Congress last week. Petri says the highway will become part of the federal Interstate Highway system next year. “It doesn’t really change anything on the ground but it does lock in improvements on the highway from Milwaukee to Green Bay over the next period of years and it will help businesses and communities make it clear to people around the world what kind of infrastructure they’re dealing with if they’re locating or doing business in Fond du Lac or up and down the valley,” Petri told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
