12-3-14 deer hunt numbers down

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin hunters killed far fewer deer this gun season than a year ago.  The Department of Natural Resources says preliminary figures show 191,550 deer were taken, down 25 percent from last year.  The overall buck harvest was a little over 90,000, down about 8 percent from a year ago. The Green Lake County DNR conservation warden says he’s confident more than one person is responsible for a deer thrill kill incident over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.  Warden Nate Ackermann says authorities have now found more than ten deer that were shot and left in the field in central Green Lake County.  Ackerman says he hasn’t seen a deer thrill kill incident to this magnitude during his law enforcement career. The cause of a fire that destroyed a Fond du Lac home last month has been ruled undetermined.   Fire Chief Pete O’Leary says it appears the fire at 180 Ledgeview Avenue started in the kitchen  and may have been caused by an appliance or electrical problem.  The parents had dropped their kids off at school November 21st and returned home to find their house on fire.  Nobody was injured.  The Red […]

Another store has closed at the Fond du Lac Forest Mall.  The Firestone tire store closed its doors Saturday after deciding not to renew its lease with the mall.  Firestone has stores in Sheboygan, Neenah and Oshkosh.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Senate Democratic Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling has chosen Lena Taylor and Jon Erpenbach to serve on the Legislature's Joint Finance Committee.  Shilling made the announcement Tuesday. Taylor represents a portion of Milwaukee. Erpenbach's district includes Middleton and Mount Horeb.  The finance committee's main task is to revise the governor's executive budget.
