A North Fond du Lac man was taken into custody at gunpoint following a chase with police. The incident happened around 1am Dec. 30 when officers attempted to stop a vehicle with heavy front-end damage and missing a rear tire. The chase proceeded on Merrill Avenue and East Johnson Street despite the loss of a second wheel with speeds up to 50 miles an hour. The vehicle crashed into a building at Division and Main and ended near East Johnson Street and Country Lane by a Kwik Trip store more than a mile from the crash site. Nobody was injured. A passenger inside the vehicle, a 34-year-old Fond du Lac woman, was not charged in the incident. Charges are being referred to the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
