Tow trucks have been busy helping stranded motorists this week. State Triple A spokesman Nick Jarmuscz says calls for service are up significantly. “I know yesterday we handled well over a thousand calls which is higher than normal,” Jarmuscz told WFDL news. “We are definately getting a lot of calls from throughout the state.” Jarmuscz says most of the calls are for dead batteries. He says the cold weather is particularly hard on electric vehicles. Make sure to keep your gas tank at least half-full to avoid fuel-line freeze-up.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
