1-20-15 another push by assembly republicans for 70 mph limit

todayJanuary 20, 2015

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State Assembly Republicans hope the Senate’s new members will help pass a bill raising the speed limit to 70 mph in Wisconsin.  The Assembly approved the 5 mph hike last year, but the measure died when senators declined to back it. Both houses were controlled by Republicans, as they are now. But, the makeup of the Senate has changed with the retirement of more moderate lawmakers, including Mike Ellis and Dale Schultz.  Rep. Paul Tittl says he’ll introduce a bill soon. Tittl says it’s time Wisconsin follow its neighbors, which have a maximum speed of 70 mph or higher.  Sen. Jerry Petrowski is chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee. Petrowski said the bill could come down to safety issues.
