1-21-15 wi 70 mph speed limit proposal

todayJanuary 21, 2015

A Republican lawmaker from Manitowac is introducing legislation Wednesday that would raise the speed limit to 70 mph in Wisconsin.  The Assembly approved the 5 mph hike last year, but the measure died when senators declined to back it.  The bill’s author, state representative Paul Tittl says he thinks the bill will pass this time around.  Tittl says its time Wisconsin follow its neighbors, which have a maximum speed limit of 70 mph or higher.  Tittl says contrary to arguments that a faster speed is less safe…70mph may actually be more safe.  “When you have a variance in speed, which we have now, you actually create an unsafe roadway,”  Tittl told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.  “Its about safety and if this was going to compromise the safety of the roadways I wouldn’t even be interested in bring this forth.”
